The »bidding war« ended at EUR 3,500.00 59% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Jan Korthals - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Grimburgwal in winter, Amsterdam, which sold at auction in February 2008 for EUR 9,850.00.

Die Arbeit Bookstalls near the Quai des Grands Augustins, Paris von Jan Korthals wurde im September 2009 in der Auktion Nineteen to Now, art from the 19th, 20th & 21st centuries, including Topographical Observations, African and Indonesian Pictures bei Christies in Amsterdam versteigert. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von EUR 3.500,00 und damit 59% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von Jan Korthals mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Grimburgwal in winter, Amsterdam beobachtet, die im Februar 2008 für EUR 9.850,00 versteigert wurde.
