This artwork by James Swinnerton achieved an unexpectedly high price at Bonhams in Los Angeles in December 2021. In the California and Western Art Online auction, the work Agathla Needle, Monument Valley, Arizona sold for USD 8,287.50 (€ 7,322.41) - well above the upper estimate of USD 3,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by James Swinnerton; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Kiva in the desert sold at auction in April last year with the realized price of USD 14,025.00 (€ 13,310.24).
