This artwork by James Sharples achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in January 2011. In the Christie's Interiors auction, the work Portrait of a gentleman, small three-quarter-length, seated on a chair, in hunting attire, a riding crop in his right hand sold for GBP 1,500.00 (€ 1,683.41) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 800.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by James Sharples achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work George Washington in January 2021 with an auction result of USD 325,000.00 (€ 267,820.35).
