Upper estimate price exceeded by 100 %.
This artwork by James Sharples achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in January 2009. In the American Furniture and Decorative Arts including English and Dutch Delft auction, the work Pair of Portraits of Colonel and Mrs. Richard Varick sold for USD 10,000.00 (€ 7,810.06) - well above the upper estimate of USD 5,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by James Sharples achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work George Washington in January 2021 with an auction result of USD 325,000.00 (€ 267,820.35).
