Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by James Barry could be acquired at Sothebys in London in December 2019 for an unexpectedly low price. In the The Pohl-Ströher Collection of Portrait Miniatures, Part III auction, the work Portrait Of An Officer, Probably Of The East India Company, Circa 1800 changed hands for GBP 1,187.00 (€ 1,402.90) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 1,200.00 – 1,800.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by James Barry achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Seated male nude in September 2016 with an auction result of GBP 87,500.00 (€ 101,335.87).
