This artwork by Jacob Adriaensz. Backer achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in Amsterdam in May 2000. In the Old Master Pictures auction, the work Portrait of Geertruida Hasselaer (1624-1696), standing three quarter length before a curtain, wearing a yellow silk dress and lace chemise, pearls and bonnet, with her right hand holding the train of her dress against her breast sold for NLG 39,786.80 (€ 17,372.60) - well above the upper estimate of NLG 20,000.00. Admittedly, works by Jacob Adriaensz. Backer have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of a gentleman, half-length, in a black coat with a white collar and cuffs, wearing a black hat, a glove in his right hand, before a column and a red curtain in July 2015 with an auction result of GBP 122,500.00 (€ 173,663.86).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 99 % übertroffen

Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Jacob Adriaensz. Backer auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Portrait of a gentleman, half-length, in a black coat with a white collar and cuffs, wearing a black hat, a glove in his right hand, before a column and a red curtain im Juli 2015 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 122.500,00 (€ 173.663,86).
