A top price for Jacob Adriaensz. Backer - as previously expected
In July 2015 Christies in London held the auction Old Master & British Paintings Day Sale, which included the work Portrait of a gentleman, half-length, in a black coat with a white collar and cuffs, wearing a black hat, a glove in his right hand, before a column and a red curtain by Jacob Adriaensz. Backer. The price achieved of GBP 122,500.00 (€ 173,663.86) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 100,000.00 – 150,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Portrait of a gentleman, half-length, in a black coat with a white collar and cuffs, wearing a black hat, a glove in his right hand, before a column and a red curtain is the most expensive artwork by Jacob Adriaensz. Backer that we have observed at auctions so far.

Backer zur Versteigerung kam.
