This artwork by Jacob Adriaensz. Backer achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in October 2021. In the Old Master Paintings and Sculpture auction, the work Portrait of a boy, with an axe, half-length, probably Jasper Lemmers (1640-1697) sold for USD 112,500.00 (€ 97,385.73) - well above the upper estimate of USD 60,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Jacob Adriaensz. Backer; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Portrait of a gentleman, half-length, in a black coat with a white collar and cuffs, wearing a black hat, a glove in his right hand, before a column and a red curtain sold at auction in July 2015 with the realized price of GBP 122,500.00 (€ 173,663.86).
