In March 2021 Christies in New York held the auction Japanese and Korean Art, which included the work The Actor Ichimura Uzaemon As Sugawara No Michizane by Ippitsusai Buncho. The »bidding war« ended at USD 4,750.00 (€ 4,044.96), 58% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Ippitsusai Buncho - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A full-length portrait of the actor Ichikawa Danjuro V as a boatman, signed Ippitsusai Buncho ga--very good impression, good color though some pigments faded, slight stain and soiling near edges, which sold at auction in September 2000 for USD 9,400.00 (€ 10,637.09).
