Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Ebiya Nai Utanosuke (Utanosuke of The Ebiya), From The Series Fujibumi (Folded Love-Letters) by Ippitsusai Buncho was sold in the Japanese Art Including Property of The Metropolitan Museum of Art auction at Christies in New York in March 2006. The price achieved of USD 3,600.00 (€ 2,965.65) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 3,000.00 – 4,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Ippitsusai Buncho - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A full-length portrait of the actor Ichikawa Danjuro V as a boatman, signed Ippitsusai Buncho ga--very good impression, good color though some pigments faded, slight stain and soiling near edges, which sold at auction in September 2000 for USD 9,400.00 (€ 10,637.09).
