This artwork by Ippitsusai Buncho achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in New York in March 2013. In the Japanese and Korean Art auction, the work Unknown sold for USD 1,625.00 (€ 1,267.95) - well above the upper estimate of USD 600.00. Admittedly, works by Ippitsusai Buncho have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work A full-length portrait of the actor Ichikawa Danjuro V as a boatman, signed Ippitsusai Buncho ga--very good impression, good color though some pigments faded, slight stain and soiling near edges in September 2000 with an auction result of USD 9,400.00 (€ 10,637.09).
