5 vols, oblong quarto (4 of these 200x300mm, and the other 200x270mm). 127 black and white photographs bound in concertina. The four vols of plates bound in original black cloth, upper covers blocked in blind and lettered in silver, the appendix volume as issued in the original printed wrappers, all laid in the original cloth case, reflective disc mounted on the upper side, the spine lettered in silver, original glassine dust-jacket, and original protective carton.
FIRST EDITION, A FINE COPY. One of 350 signed copies only, this one an artist's proof ('a.p'). A luxurious publication of Narahara's typology of the ancient arches, and their modern electric lighting, along St Mark's Square; one volume for each point on the compass, with the images bound in concertina to allow viewing of all the arches at once.

Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portici di Luce. Piazza San Marco. Tokyo: Unac, 1981. by Ikko Narahara was sold in the Photobooks auction at Christies in London in May 2009. The price achieved of GBP 1,250.00 (€ 1,429.99) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 1,000.00 – 1,500.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Ikko Narahara achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Shadow of car driving through desert, Arizona from Where Time Has Vanished in November this year with an auction result of GBP 27,940.00 (€ 32,376.38).

Der dabei erzielte Preis von GBP 1.250,00 (€ 1.429,99) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit GBP 1.000,00 – 1.500,00 angegeben worden. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Ikko Narahara erzielen.
