Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In April this year Bonhams held the auction Old Master Paintings, which included the work A portrait miniature of an officer, possibly a member of Admiral Vernon's family, wearing red coat with blue collar, white waistcoat, chemise and lace cravat, black stock, his powdered wig worn en queue by Horace Hone. Here, the upper estimate of GBP 1,500.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 1,657.50 (€ 1,889.01). Admittedly, works by Horace Hone have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait Of Sir William Forbes, 6Th Bt. Of Pitsligo (1739-1806) in March 2017 with an auction result of GBP 11,875.00 (€ 13,916.33).
