Auction result well in line with expectations
In May 2004 Christies in London held the auction IMPORTANT GOLD BOXES,OBJECTS OF VERTU & PORTRAIT MINIATURES, which included the work A young gentleman, in brown coat white waistcoat and lace cravat, powdered hair; together with a gentleman, in grey coat and white cravat, powdered wig (by Frederick Buck (1771 - c. 1839/40) by Horace Hone. It changed hands for a price of GBP 573.60 (€ 860.61) achieving a result in the upper range of the estimate price range of GBP 400.00 – 600.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Horace Hone achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait Of Sir William Forbes, 6Th Bt. Of Pitsligo (1739-1806) in March 2017 with an auction result of GBP 11,875.00 (€ 13,916.33).
