Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A gentleman, in brown coat with gold button, white waistcoat and tied frilled cravat, powdered hair by Horace Hone was auctioned at Christies in London in December 2003. The price achieved of GBP 2,629.00 (€ 3,723.63) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Horace Hone - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait Of Sir William Forbes, 6Th Bt. Of Pitsligo (1739-1806), which sold at auction in March 2017 for GBP 11,875.00 (€ 13,916.33).
