Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A gentleman called Mr Mullen, in brown coat, white waistcoat and frilled cravat, powdered hair by Horace Hone was sold in the IMPORTANT GOLD BOXES,OBJECTS OF VERTU & PORTRAIT MINIATURES auction at Christies in London in May 2004. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 2,000.00 – 3,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 2,151.00 (€ 3,227.29) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Admittedly, works by Horace Hone have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait Of Sir William Forbes, 6Th Bt. Of Pitsligo (1739-1806) in March 2017 with an auction result of GBP 11,875.00 (€ 13,916.33).
