Auction result well in line with expectations
In July 2016 Christies in London held the auction Victorian, Pre-Raphaelite & British Impressionist Art, Maritime Art, Sporting & Wildlife Art, which included the work A screw steamer and other vessels moored by a harbour wall, a prison hulk beyond by Henry Thomas Dawson. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 1,500.00 – 2,500.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 1,750.00 (€ 2,079.38) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Henry Thomas Dawson achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work A Danish steamer moored alongside a busy dock in Portsmouth in April this year with an auction result of GBP 25,500.00 (€ 29,061.68).
