Auction result well in line with expectations
The work A Squadron of Danish warships moored off the entrance to Portsmouth harbour, with the masts of shipping in the harbour in the distance by Henry Thomas Dawson was sold in the Important Maritime Art auction at Christies in London in October 2007. The price achieved of GBP 10,000.00 (€ 14,360.66) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 8,000.00 – 12,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Henry Thomas Dawson - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work A Danish steamer moored alongside a busy dock in Portsmouth, which sold at auction in April this year for GBP 25,500.00 (€ 29,061.68).
