Auction result well in line with expectations
The work The Dowager Empress Maria Feodorovna (1759-1828), in black dress with tulle trim, wearing a diamond-encrusted tiara, brooch at corsage, four-strand pearl necklace, further long three-strand pearl necklace with gem-set clasps, worn across the shoulder by Henri Benner was sold in the Important Portrait Miniatures and Gold Boxes auction at Christies in London in November 2007. The price achieved of GBP 4,000.00 (€ 5,601.03) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 3,000.00 – 5,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Henri Benner achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait Of Grand Duke Nicholas Pavlovich, Later Emperor Nicholas I Of Russia (1796-1855), Circa 1821 in November 2018 with an auction result of GBP 75,000.00 (€ 84,597.72).
