Artwork auctioned at three times the upper estimate price
The work Untitled (Woman in Moonlight) by Hemendranath Mazumdar was worth USD 175,000.00 (€ 155,860.35) to a buyer in March 2019. This price was achieved in the auction South Asian Modern + Contemporary Art at Christies in New York and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of USD 50,000.00 many times over. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Hemendranath Mazumdar - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Abhiman (Wounded Vanity), which sold at auction in June 2018 for GBP 413,750.00 (€ 467,608.01).
