Description
The oviform vase with broad shoulder, elongated neck and wide rim, decorated in an iron rust (kaki) glaze and a greenish brown glaze over a wax resist design of grasses, circa 1970; with fitted wood storage box (tomobako) signed Shoji and sealed Sho, and titled Kakiyu hanaike (Flower vase with kaki glaze)

Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In December 2019 Christies in London held the auction Art of Japan: Online, which included the work A Stoneware Vase with Iron Rust Glaze over Wax Resist Grass Design by Hamada Shoji. Here, the upper estimate of GBP 1,200.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 1,375.00 (€ 1,625.09). Admittedly, works by Hamada Shoji have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Hamada Shoji (1894-1978) in September 2006 with an auction result of USD 19,200.00 (€ 15,133.60).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Im Dezember 2019 führte Christies in London die Auktion Art of Japan: Online durch, in der auch die Arbeit A Stoneware Vase with Iron Rust Glaze over Wax Resist Grass Design von Hamada Shoji zur Versteigerung kam. Dabei wurde der obere Schätzpreis von GBP 1.200,00 leicht übertroffen – das Kunstwerk fand für GBP 1.375,00 (€ 1.625,09) einen neuen Besitzer. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Hamada Shoji auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Hamada Shoji (1894-1978) im September 2006 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 19.200,00 (€ 15.133,60).
