Auction result well in line with expectations
In October 2017 Sothebys in New York held the auction Photographs, which included the work Ciel Chargé - Mer Méditerranée (Cloudy Sky, Mediterranean Sea) by Gustave Le Gray. The price achieved of USD 37,500.00 (€ 32,194.37) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 30,000.00 – 50,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Gustave Le Gray achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Bateaux quittant le port du Havre (navires de la flotte de Napoleon III), 1856-1857 in February 2016 with an auction result of USD 965,000.00 (€ 887,927.86).
