The work Mediterranean with Mount Agde, 1856-1859 by Gustave Le Gray was sold in the Photographs from the Richard Gere Collection auction at Christies in New York in April last year. The »bidding war« ended at USD 75,600.00 (€ 71,747.18), 51% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Gustave Le Gray achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Bateaux quittant le port du Havre (navires de la flotte de Napoleon III), 1856-1857 in February 2016 with an auction result of USD 965,000.00 (€ 887,927.86).
