Artwork auctioned at eight times the upper estimate price
When the work Couplet Calligraphy by Guo Moruo was auctioned at Christies in Hong Kong in December 2020, the result exceeded expectations many times over. The upper estimate was set at a - in retrospect quite modest - HKD 120,000.00 but the actual price achieved was more than eight times as high at HKD 1,062,500.00 (€ 112,070.73). Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Guo Moruo; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Calligraphy In Xingshu sold at auction in October 2014 with the realized price of HKD 2,080,000.00 (€ 214,142.06).
