Acquired from Kumar Gallery, New Delhi, 26 November 1971 | Collection of Marcia Gilmartin | Marcia Gilmartin lived in Delhi during the late 1960s and early 1970s, while her husband, William M. Gilmartin ('Gil'), served in India as the Resident Representative of the World Bank. There, Marcia developed a wide circle of Indian friends, and hosted many visitors from abroad, including the head of the World Bank, Robert McNamara. She developed an active interest in the contemporary art scene in Delhi.

Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Gulam Rasool Santosh achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in March last year. In the Modern & Contemporary South Asian Art auction, the work without title sold for USD 12,600.00 (€ 11,358.51) - well above the upper estimate of USD 6,000.00. Admittedly, works by Gulam Rasool Santosh have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work without title in March 2014 with an auction result of USD 149,000.00 (€ 108,151.27).
Oberer Schätzpreis um mehr als 100% übertroffen
Dieses Kunstwerk von Gulam Rasool Santosh erzielte im März letzten Jahres bei Sothebys in New York einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Modern & Contemporary South Asian Art wurde diese Arbeit ohne Titel für USD 12.600,00 (€ 11.358,51) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von USD 6.000,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Gulam Rasool Santosh auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit ohne Titel im März 2014 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 149.000,00 (€ 108.151,27).
