Upper estimate price exceeded by more than 100%
This artwork by Godfried Schalcken achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in London in December 2018. In the Old Masters Evening Sale auction, the work Lovers By Lantern-Light Observed sold for GBP 310,000.00 (€ 345,367.49) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 150,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Godfried Schalcken; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot The Parable Of The Lost Piece Of Silver sold at auction in July 2007 with the realized price of GBP 378,400.00 (€ 562,011.35).

Dieses Kunstwerk von Godfried Schalcken erzielte im Dezember 2018 bei Sothebys in London einen unerwartet hohen Preis. In der Auktion Old Masters Evening Sale wurde die Arbeit Lovers By Lantern-Light Observed für GBP 310.000,00 (€ 345.367,49) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 150.000,00. Trotz des guten Ergebnisses ist dies nicht der höchste Zuschlag für ein Kunstwerk von Godfried Schalcken; den erzielte unter den von uns beobachteten Auktionen die Arbeit The Parable Of The Lost Piece Of Silver im Juli 2007 mit dem Hammerpreis von GBP 378.400,00 (€ 562.011,35).
