This artwork by Gillette Elvgren achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in October 2015. In the American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture auction, the work A Key Situation sold for USD 100,000.00 (€ 90,563.30) - well above the upper estimate of USD 40,000.00. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Gillette Elvgren; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Fascination sold at auction in October 2015 with the realized price of USD 125,000.00 (€ 113,204.13).
