The work Portrait of William Robert Fitzgerald, 2nd Duke of Leinster (1749-1804), half-length, wearing the Order of St. Patrick by Gilbert Stuart was sold in the Old Masters & 19th Century Art Including Select Works From the Salander-O'Reilly Galleries auction at Christies in New York in June 2010. The »bidding war« ended at USD 21,250.00 (€ 17,289.07), 42% above the upper estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Gilbert Stuart achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work George Washington (Vaughan type) in May 2018 with an auction result of USD 11,562,500.00 (€ 9,907,883.46).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 42 % übertroffen
Die Arbeit Portrait of William Robert Fitzgerald, 2nd Duke of Leinster (1749-1804), half-length, wearing the Order of St. Patrick von Gilbert Stuart wurde im Juni 2010 in der Auktion Old Masters & 19th Century Art Including Select Works From the Salander-O'Reilly Galleries bei Christies in New York versteigert.
