This artwork by Gilbert Stuart achieved an unexpectedly high price at Sothebys in New York in February 2018. In the Fine Old Master & 19th Century European Art auction, the work Portrait Of A Gentleman, Possibly A Member Of The Dalrymple Fanshaw Family, Bust Length sold for USD 17,500.00 (€ 14,331.34) - well above the upper estimate of USD 8,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Gilbert Stuart achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work George Washington (Vaughan type) in May 2018 with an auction result of USD 11,562,500.00 (€ 9,907,883.46).
