Auction result well in line with expectations
In October 2018 Sothebys in New York held the auction American Art, which included the work Portrait Of A Gentleman (Mr. Badcock) by Gilbert Stuart. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 20,000.00 – 30,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 21,250.00 (€ 18,752.21) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Gilbert Stuart achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work George Washington (Vaughan type) in May 2018 with an auction result of USD 11,562,500.00 (€ 9,907,883.46).
Auktionsergebnis im Rahmen der Erwartungen
Im Oktober 2018 führte Sothebys in New York die Auktion American Art durch, in der auch die Arbeit Portrait Of A Gentleman (Mr. Badcock) von Gilbert Stuart zur Versteigerung kam. Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von USD 20.000,00 – 30.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von USD 21.250,00 (€ 18.752,21) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen. Dieser Preis hat freilich nichts mit den Spitzenpreisen zu tun, die andere Arbeiten von Gilbert Stuart erzielen. Den höchsten von uns bisher beobachteten Preis erreichte die Arbeit George Washington (Vaughan type) im Mai 2018 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 11.562.500,00 (€ 9.907.883,46).
