The work Portrait of General Richard Grenville, bust-length, in red coat, in a painted oval by Gilbert Stuart was sold in the Old Master Paintings Part II auction at Christies in New York in January 2012. It achieved a price of USD 50,000.00 (€ 38,305.37), exceeding the upper end of the estimate range by 43%. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Gilbert Stuart achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work George Washington (Vaughan type) in May 2018 with an auction result of USD 11,562,500.00 (€ 9,907,883.46).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 43 % übertroffen
