In September 2008 Sothebys in New York held the auction American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture, which included the work Cold Comfort On The Outpost by Gilbert Gaul. The »bidding war« ended at USD 20,000.00 (€ 14,203.54), 33% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Gilbert Gaul have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work The Song Of Victory in May 2010 with an auction result of USD 146,500.00 (€ 118,441.26).
Oberer Schätzpreis um 33 % übertroffen
Im September 2008 führte Sothebys in New York die Auktion American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture durch, in der auch die Arbeit Cold Comfort On The Outpost von Gilbert Gaul zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 20.000,00 (€ 14.203,54) und damit 33% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von Gilbert Gaul auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit The Song Of Victory im Mai 2010 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 146.500,00 (€ 118.441,26).
