In January 2010 Sothebys in New York held the auction Old Master Drawings, which included the work View Of The Farnese Hercules In The Portico Of The Courtyard Of The Farnese Palace, Rome by Giacomo Quarenghi. The »bidding war« ended at USD 23,750.00 (€ 17,123.29), 58% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by Giacomo Quarenghi have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Four views of Bakhchiserai in the Crimea: Houses along the river; The walls of a mosque; A lane with a view of mountains; and A mosque among trees in November 2005 with an auction result of GBP 60,000.00 (€ 88,147.58).
