Artwork auctioned at ten times the upper estimate price
The work Eight views in Southern Russia: Kremenchug; Elizavetgrad; Mikhailovka seen across the river; A distant view of Mikhailovka; Mikhailovka with the river to the right; The river at Mikhailovka; Kishinev; and Kanyli by Giacomo Quarenghi was worth GBP 50,400.00 (€ 74,043.97) to a buyer in November 2005. This price was achieved in the auction RUSSIAN PICTURES at Christies in London and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of GBP 5,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by Giacomo Quarenghi; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Four views of Bakhchiserai in the Crimea: Houses along the river; The walls of a mosque; A lane with a view of mountains; and A mosque among trees sold at auction in November 2005 with the realized price of GBP 60,000.00 (€ 88,147.58).
