Sold at the lower estimate price
In July 2021 Christies in London held the auction Old Master and British Drawings and Watercolours including a Fine Collection of Old Master Prints, which included the work Vegetable market day in a Dutch town by Gerard ter Borch II. The result of GBP 150,000.00 (€ 175,906.10) was exactly at the lower end of the estimate range of GBP 150,000.00 – 250,000.00. Admittedly, works by Gerard ter Borch II have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of Jan Craeyvanger (bapt. 7 September 1641-'died young'), three-quarter-length, in a grey costume with a white collar and a grey mantle, standing with a black hat in his right hand, in a painted oval; Portrait of Willem Craeyvanger (bapt. 31 in May 2009 with an auction result of EUR 745,000.00.
