Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Portrait of a man, bust-length by Gerard ter Borch II was sold in the The I.Q. van Regteren Altena Collection Part IV auction at Christies in New York in May 2015. The price achieved of EUR 6,250.00 was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as EUR 5,000.00 – 7,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Gerard ter Borch II achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Jan Craeyvanger (bapt. 7 September 1641-'died young'), three-quarter-length, in a grey costume with a white collar and a grey mantle, standing with a black hat in his right hand, in a painted oval; Portrait of Willem Craeyvanger (bapt. 31 in May 2009 with an auction result of EUR 745,000.00.
7 September 1641-'died young'), three-quarter-length, in a grey costume with a white collar and a grey mantle, standing with a black hat in his right hand, in a painted oval; Portrait of Willem Craeyvanger (bapt. 31 im Mai 2009 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 745.000,00.
