Auction result misses estimated price range
This work of art by Gerard ter Borch II could be acquired at Christies in Hong Kong in May this year for an unexpectedly low price. In the Old Masters auction, the work Portrait of a Spanish gentleman, bust-length, in a black doublet with a white collar changed hands for USD 10,080.00 (€ 9,461.24) - missing the lower end of the estimate range of USD 30,000.00 – 50,000.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by Gerard ter Borch II achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Jan Craeyvanger (bapt. 7 September 1641-'died young'), three-quarter-length, in a grey costume with a white collar and a grey mantle, standing with a black hat in his right hand, in a painted oval; Portrait of Willem Craeyvanger (bapt. 31 in May 2009 with an auction result of EUR 745,000.00.
7 September 1641-'died young'), three-quarter-length, in a grey costume with a white collar and a grey mantle, standing with a black hat in his right hand, in a painted oval; Portrait of Willem Craeyvanger (bapt. 31 im Mai 2009 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von EUR 745.000,00.
