Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
In April 2015 Christies in London held the auction Old Master & British Paintings, which included the work Portrait of a lady, traditionally identified as Rebecca, Lady Williamson (d. 1722), bust-length, in a blue dress and golden wrap, in a sculpted oval; and Portrait of a gentleman, traditionally identified as Sir Robert Williamson, 3rd Bt. (1640-1707), bust by Gerard Soest. Here, the upper estimate of GBP 8,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 8,750.00 (€ 12,015.77). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by Gerard Soest - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of a boy from the Ashley-Cooper family, half-length, wearing a blue wrap and a white shirt with a dog in a landscape, which sold at auction in December 2018 for GBP 40,000.00 (€ 44,563.55).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen
Im April 2015 führte Christies in London die Auktion Old Master & British Paintings durch, in der auch die Arbeit Portrait of a lady, traditionally identified as Rebecca, Lady Williamson (d. 1722), bust-length, in a blue dress and golden wrap, in a sculpted oval; and Portrait of a gentleman, traditionally identified as Sir Robert Williamson, 3rd Bt.
