Upper estimated price slightly exceeded
The work William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland, standing full length in red robes of state and collar of the Bath, white steinkirk, full bottomed powdered wig, holding a crown in his right hand and clasping the hilt of his sword in his left hand: interior back by George Vertue was auctioned at Christies in London in November 2001. Here, the upper estimate of GBP 3,000.00 was slightly exceeded - the artwork found a new owner for GBP 3,290.00 (€ 5,235.43). However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by George Vertue - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Portrait of Edmund, Duke of Buckingham (1715-1735), full-length, in state dress with ducal coronet, in an interior, which sold at auction in June 2004 for GBP 7,170.00 (€ 10,671.11).
Oberer Schätzpreis leicht übertroffen

Dabei wurde der obere Schätzpreis von GBP 3.000,00 leicht übertroffen – das Kunstwerk fand für GBP 3.290,00 (€ 5.235,43) einen neuen Besitzer. Für andere Arbeiten von George Vertue mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Portrait of Edmund, Duke of Buckingham (1715-1735), full-length, in state dress with ducal coronet, in an interior beobachtet, die im Juni 2004 für GBP 7.170,00 (€ 10.671,11) versteigert wurde.
