A top price for George Vertue - as previously expected
In June 2004 Christies in London held the auction British Art on Paper including Victorian Watercolours from, which included the work Portrait of Edmund, Duke of Buckingham (1715-1735), full-length, in state dress with ducal coronet, in an interior by George Vertue. The price achieved of GBP 7,170.00 (€ 10,671.11) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 6,000.00 – 8,000.00. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Portrait of Edmund, Duke of Buckingham (1715-1735), full-length, in state dress with ducal coronet, in an interior is the most expensive artwork by George Vertue that we have observed at auctions so far.
