This artwork by George Vertue achieved an unexpectedly high price at Christies in London in October 2003. In the At Home-British and Continental Pictures and Works on Paper auction, the work The Battle Arry of Carberry Hill near Edinburgh with the surrender of Mary Queen of Scots to the confederate Lords of Scotland, and the escape of the Earl Bothwell, 1567 sold for GBP 1,527.50 (€ 2,231.05) - well above the upper estimate of GBP 800.00. Admittedly, works by George Vertue have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Portrait of Edmund, Duke of Buckingham (1715-1735), full-length, in state dress with ducal coronet, in an interior in June 2004 with an auction result of GBP 7,170.00 (€ 10,671.11).

In der Auktion At Home-British and Continental Pictures and Works on Paper wurde die Arbeit The Battle Arry of Carberry Hill near Edinburgh with the surrender of Mary Queen of Scots to the confederate Lords of Scotland, and the escape of the Earl Bothwell, 1567 für GBP 1.527,50 (€ 2.231,05) versteigert – und damit weit über dem oberen Schätzpreis von GBP 800,00. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von George Vertue auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Portrait of Edmund, Duke of Buckingham (1715-1735), full-length, in state dress with ducal coronet, in an interior im Juni 2004 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von GBP 7.170,00 (€ 10.671,11).
