In May 2006 Christies in New York held the auction Important American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture, which included the work Sleep by George Tooker. The »bidding war« ended at USD 138,000.00 (€ 107,535.26), 38% above the upper estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by George Tooker - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Coney Island, which sold at auction in December 2002 for USD 427,500.00 (€ 407,725.32).

Im Mai 2006 führte Christies in New York die Auktion Important American Paintings, Drawings and Sculpture durch, in der auch die Arbeit Sleep von George Tooker zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von USD 138.000,00 (€ 107.535,26) und damit 38% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Für andere Arbeiten von George Tooker mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Coney Island beobachtet, die im Dezember 2002 für USD 427.500,00 (€ 407.725,32) versteigert wurde.
