Auction result well in line with expectations
The work Embrace I by George Tooker was auctioned at Sothebys in New York in November 2012. The price achieved of USD 242,500.00 (€ 186,395.08) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as USD 200,000.00 – 300,000.00. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by George Tooker - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Coney Island, which sold at auction in December 2002 for USD 427,500.00 (€ 407,725.32).

Die Arbeit Embrace I von George Tooker kam im November 2012 bei Sothebys in New York zur Auktion. Der dabei erzielte Preis von USD 242.500,00 (€ 186.395,08) lag im Rahmen der Erwartungen – die Schätzpreisspanne war von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit USD 200.000,00 – 300.000,00 angegeben worden. Für andere Arbeiten von George Tooker mussten die Käufer allerdings auch schon deutlich tiefer in die Tasche greifen – das bisher höchste Auktionsergebnis haben wir für die Arbeit Coney Island beobachtet, die im Dezember 2002 für USD 427.500,00 (€ 407.725,32) versteigert wurde.
