Auction result well in line with expectations
The work An Embrace Of Peace by George Tooker was sold in the American Art auction at Sothebys in New York in November 2014. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of USD 125,000.00 – 175,000.00, the actual price achieved of USD 137,000.00 (€ 110,146.33) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by George Tooker - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work Coney Island, which sold at auction in December 2002 for USD 427,500.00 (€ 407,725.32).
