Auction result well in line with expectations
In July 2019 Sothebys in London held the auction Property from the Estate of Sir John and Lady Smith, which included the work Britishportrait Of A Lady, Traditionally Identified As Emily Smith (1806-1879) by George Richmond. The price achieved of GBP 938.00 (€ 1,029.86) was within expectations - the estimate range had previously been set by the auction house as GBP 800.00 – 1,200.00. Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by George Richmond achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Sir Moses Montefiore (1784-1885), three-quarter-length, seated at a desk, in a black suit and cap in May 2005 with an auction result of GBP 96,000.00 (€ 141,726.13).
