Auction result misses estimated price range
When the work Sevenoaks, Kent by George Richmond was auctioned at Sothebys in London in September 2019, the result was somewhat disappointing. The auction house had previously given the estimated price as a range of GBP 600.00 – 800.00, of which not even the lower limit was reached - in fact, the artwork changed hands for GBP 375.00 (€ 423.14). Of course, this price has nothing to do with the top prices that other works by George Richmond achieve. The highest price we have observed so far was reached by the work Portrait of Sir Moses Montefiore (1784-1885), three-quarter-length, seated at a desk, in a black suit and cap in May 2005 with an auction result of GBP 96,000.00 (€ 141,726.13).
