Artwork auctioned at five times the upper estimate price
The work Set of four 'Conoid' dining chairs by George Nakashima was worth HKD 312,500.00 (€ 36,244.21) to a buyer in November 2019. This price was achieved in the auction 20th Century & Contemporary Art & Design Day Sale at Phillips in Hong Kong and exceeded the previously set upper estimate of HKD 60,000.00 many times over. Despite this good result, it is not the highest hammer price for an artwork by George Nakashima; that achieved among the auctions we observed the lot Exceptional free-form “Minguren I” coffee table sold at auction in May 2010 with the realized price of USD 86,500.00 (€ 69,932.90).
