In March 2007 Sothebys in Olympia held the auction British & Continental Paintings, which included the work Returning From Market, Dusty Road, Surrey by George Cole. The »bidding war« ended at GBP 10,200.00 (€ 15,013.23), 46% above the upper estimate. Admittedly, works by George Cole have also been auctioned for a multiple of this price - according to our records, the highest result so far was achieved by the work Carting the Ripe Harvest, Coombe in May 2000 with an auction result of USD 84,600.00 (€ 90,694.68).

Im März 2007 führte Sothebys in Olympia die Auktion British & Continental Paintings durch, in der auch die Arbeit Returning From Market, Dusty Road, Surrey von George Cole zur Versteigerung kam. Das »Bietergefecht« endete beim Preis von GBP 10.200,00 (€ 15.013,23) und damit 46% über dem oberen Schätzpreis. Freilich wurden Arbeiten von George Cole auch schon für ein Vielfaches dieses Preises versteigert – das bisher höchste Ergebnis erzielte nach unseren Aufzeichnungen die Arbeit Carting the Ripe Harvest, Coombe im Mai 2000 mit einem Auktionsergebnis von USD 84.600,00 (€ 90.694,68).
