Auction result misses estimated price range
In March this year a collector was able to acquire the work Portrait of a bay thoroughbred mare by George Algernon Fothergill for GBP 140.25 (€ 159.56). This price was achieved in the auction Pictures and Prints Online at Bonhams and was even below the estimate range of GBP 600.00 – 800.00 set by the auction house. However, buyers have had to dig much deeper into their pockets for other works by George Algernon Fothergill - we have observed the highest auction result to date for the work An album of drawings and watercolours, the majority equestrian studies including: A sketch from the life of Bibiani (illustrated); Studies of dogs; and Studies of tack, which sold at auction in July 2009 for GBP 525.00 (€ 595.72).
