A top price for Georg Pencz - as previously expected
In July 2010 Christies in London held the auction Old Master & 19th Century Paintings, Drawings & WatercoloursEvening, which included the work Portrait of Sigismund Baldinger (1510-1558), three-quarter-length, seated, in a black satin doublet and a fur-lined black mantle, holding gloves, at a draped table by Georg Pencz. The estimated price for the artwork was previously given by the auction house with a range of GBP 5,000,000.00 – 8,000,000.00, the actual price achieved of GBP 5,641,250.00 (€ 6,782,967.52) could thus just exceed the lower estimate. Even if this result could not surprise positively, Portrait of Sigismund Baldinger (1510-1558), three-quarter-length, seated, in a black satin doublet and a fur-lined black mantle, holding gloves, at a draped table is the most expensive artwork by Georg Pencz that we have observed at auctions so far.

Der Schätzpreis für das Kunstwerk wurde von dem Auktionshaus zuvor mit einer Spanne von GBP 5.000.000,00 – 8.000.000,00 angegeben, der tatsächlich erzielte Preis von GBP 5.641.250,00 (€ 6.782.967,52) konnte den unteren Schätzpreis somit knapp übertreffen.
